Thanks to its vibrant landscapes, autumn transforms our running trails into a veritable living painting. For running enthusiasts, this season offers an opportunity to enjoy the changing colours up close and personal, and challenge our adaptability.
Set yourself up for success
Before departing on a trail run, make sure you are adequately equipped.
Shoes adapted to your planned route are a must. Trail-running shoes are designed to tackle varied and rugged terrain. Their technical design is essential to ensure performance and safety. The outsole, equipped with crampons, guarantees optimal grip on rocky or muddy ground. The soles are usually made of sturdy rubber, providing better traction on any type of surface.
Choose technical fabric clothing to better manage variable weather conditions and maintain comfort throughout the race. Prioritize synthetic materials and merino wool to effectively wick away perspiration.
A backpack with a built-in hydration system is essential for longer runs. It allows you to keep your hands free while carrying other necessities such as a first aid kit, waterproof jacket, gloves and nutrition.
Finally, trail poles can be an asset providing additional stability. When you are climbing, the poles offer significant assistance by distributing the muscular effort in the upper body. While you are descending, they provide additional support, reducing the chances of falls and pressure in the joints.
Investing in proper trail-running equipment can transform your experience, improving not only your comfort but also your safety and performance.
See you on the trails
With the tenth anniversary of the Classic Salomon Tremblant coming this month, I am looking forward to seeing many of you out training on the trails, and on race day. It’s an event I look forward to each year.
Prep well for your trail running, and enjoy every minute out on the trails this season.
