Mont-Tremblant is a four-season playground where nature provides an endless array of activities. Winter, though, is by far my favourite season to play outside.
Healthier and happier outdoors
Spending time in nature is exhilarating. As a bonus, research shows that it may be the secret to a stronger, healthier body and a calmer, happier mind. In Your Brain on Nature: The Science of Nature’s Influence on Your Health, Happiness, and Vitality we learn that spending time outdoors is associated with significant health benefits.
Being in nature can lower blood pressure, reduce levels of the stress hormone cortisol, improve immunity and aid in achieving a longer and healthier life. Reducing stress and improving our immune system are both of substantial importance, especially now.
Lessen the perceived effort
We all know that exercise is good for us. When we combine movement or exercise with nature, the health benefits multiply. Science confirms that although outdoor activities and exercise can be more taxing on our body, we perceive it to be easier.
As a result, we exercise longer, and harder. A study published by the American College of Sports Medicine found that when walking on an outdoor track people chose a faster pace, yet rated their perceived exertion lower than those who walked on a treadmill at a slower pace.
Outdoors, you are in the moment. Focus is on navigating the terrain, not on the effort. When you skin up a hill after an exhilarating schuss, you are not thinking about the ascent, but rather your next wild descent.
Endless opportunity
Skate, ski, board, snowshoe or Nordic walk. Slide or glide. Downhill, cross-country and backcountry. The opportunities are limitless – and they are all in our backyard. Embrace our outdoor opportunities in Mont- Tremblant this winter. It is good for your mind and your body.
